SMOKING & VAPING

Do you know there are more ex-smokers than smokers these days?

There are lots of reasons to quit smoking. It might be because of health implications, you’re fed up of having to go outside in the cold to smoke, your partner is unhappy about you smoking or you want to use the money for something different or something else entirely.

Vaping has become popular over the last ten years, particularly with young people. One of the problems with it is lack of regulation, meaning that vapes can contain any number of chemicals and high levels of nicotine which can lead to heightened anxiety levels. As many people do vape indoors, there is no barrier to when to vape, and 'chain vaping' can occur. While vapes have been marketed as a 'safe' alternative to smoking, there is increasing solid medical evidence to suggest they take a tool on the cardiac and respiratory systems.

HOW CAN HYPNOTHERAPY HELP?

Hypnotherapy helps you to quit smoking or vaping by helping you break the negative behaviours and thinking patterns associated with it. Hypnotherapy works by guiding you into a deep, relaxed state. During trance your mind is open to suggestion and change. The talking part of the session, prior to trance will be when you explore what changes you want to make. These are what you will be opening your mind to in trance. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses indirect language to support your preferred change, not what I think you should be doing. You’ll also learn self-hypnosis techniques so that you can continue practicing at home.

Over a two-hour session you’ll learn about how your brain works with regards to unhelpful habits and changing them. You’ll have a better understanding of why some methods have worked well for you in the past and some not at all but have for friends and family. You’ll leave with strategies to cope with cravings, unforeseen potential triggers and increased hope and confidence that you will be able to make the choses you want to make to become a non-smoker or vaper.

A common perception of what might happen in a smoking/vaping cessation session is that I will hypnotise you to stop smoking by suggesting new responses such as “I do not want a cigarette” or “The smell of vapes makes me feel sick”. Or that I will ask you to imagine smoking a cigarette but imagining an unpleasant smell or taste. This is common in traditional styles of hypnotherapy, known as direct suggestion, and can work for some people.

However, I practice solution focused hypnotherapy which promotes clients' control of their life and best choices, so for those who do not like to be told by others what to do, the Solution Focused method allows them to decide on the changes they wish to make.

I practice Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy, it is an evidence-based approach that uses cognitive hypnotherapy and applied neuroscience to produce results more swiftly than many other therapeutic modalities.

This type of therapeutic hypnosis has origins in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). I am nearing the end of my studies with CPHT considered the gold standard in hypnotherapy training, and practising under supervision. Between now and completion, I am charging half price for sessions.

I am a certified and accredited Life Coach (by the IAPC&M), and hold a certificate in Applied Neuroscience. I am a student member of the AfSFH (Association for Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy) and NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy) and adhere to their code of ethics.
