Help with depression in Surrey

You don't have to keep feeling this way.

Maybe it crept up gradually. The things that used to bring pleasure stopped working. Getting through the day started to feel like wading through something heavy. You might be functioning on the outside — still going to work, still showing up — while something inside feels increasingly flat, distant, or just absent.

Depression doesn't always look the way people expect. It isn't always crying or staying in bed. Sometimes it's numbness. A sense of disconnection from your own life. The quiet feeling that you're going through the motions without really being there.

You're not broken. And this isn't something you just have to push through.

A different kind of support for depression

I'm Ros Dodd — a clinical hypnotherapist and solution focused therapist based in Leatherhead, Surrey. I work with clients experiencing depression and low mood in person and online, and I offer a free initial phone call so you can get a sense of how I work before committing to anything.

My approach is solution focused — which means rather than spending session after session analysing what went wrong, we work with where you want to get to, and what your brain and nervous system need to start moving in that direction.

This matters with depression because one of the things that keeps it going is a brain stuck in negative pattern — low mood reduces activity, reduced activity deepens low mood. Solution focused hypnotherapy works directly with that cycle, using what we know about the neuroscience of mood to help your brain start rebuilding positive patterns.

It's not about positive thinking. It's about working with the brain's natural capacity to change.

What I offer

The main tools I use are clinical hypnotherapy and solution focused therapy — a well-evidenced, deeply relaxing approach that works with the unconscious mind to shift the patterns maintaining low mood. Sessions combine talking, solution focused questioning, and hypnosis — a state of focused relaxation that allows us to work directly with the patterns driving how you feel.

I also draw on neuroscience, nervous system regulation, and where relevant, parts-based and somatic approaches — always tailored to you as an individual.

Who comes to see me?

People come to me with depression from all kinds of starting points. Some have had treatment before — medication, CBT, counselling — and are looking for something that works differently. Some are experiencing low mood for the first time and aren't sure what they need. Some are managing alongside anxiety, ADHD, or a significant life event.

I work with people experiencing:

  • Persistent low mood and loss of pleasure

  • Emotional numbness and disconnection

  • Fatigue and lack of motivation

  • Depression alongside anxiety

  • Burnout and exhaustion

  • Grief and loss

  • Low self-worth and negative self-talk

  • Depression linked to a specific life event or transition

  • Postnatal low mood

  • Depression that hasn't responded well to other approaches
